Welcome to 2nd Grade

This year is an exciting year for your child!

This year in second grade the children will begin sacramental preparation for restored order of the sacraments of Christian Initiation.

The children will begin sacramental preparation by learning about the sacrament of reconciliation; they will receive the sacrament of 1st Reconciliation in January of 2014. They will also begin formation on the Holy Eucharist and have a special retreat day focusing on the Eucharist. Then in third grade, they will review the sacraments of Christian initiation and focus on awaiting the gifts of the Holy Spirit and the summit of our faith, the Eucharist. They will receive the sacraments of Confirmation, then First Eucharist, at the same Mass in the spring of 2015.

The reception of these sacraments will be an integral part of their Catholic identity for the rest of their lives.  So that the reception of these sacraments is meaningful for the children, we ask parents, as the primary educators of your children, to work with your child on the following:  the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, the Act of Contrition, the 10 Commandments, and the Beatitudes.  These prayers as well as others will be reinforced during class.

2nd Grade students have a choice of attending formation on Wednesday afternoon from 5:30-6:30 p.m. or on Sunday mornings from 11:00 - Noon.

In addition, please mark the following important dates on your calendar:

  • Parent Meeting for Sacramental Prep - Wednesday September 18, 2013 at 6:30 p.m.
  • 1st Reconciliation Retreat - Saturday, January 11, 2014, 9:00 a.m. until noon. We ask that at least one parent attend with their child.
  • Sacrament of Reconciliation will be administered on Saturday January 25, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in Seton Hall.
  • First Eucharist Retreat - on March 29, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. for the RCIC class and second grade families who, due to special circumstances, have requested to receive the sacrament in Spring 2014. We ask that at least one parent attend with their child.

In the event of  inclement weather, class cancellation will be posted on the website as soon as the need to cancel classes is determined. Please check the website before dropping your child off for class. Please note if PR-1 is closed due to weather classes will not be held.
